Lithe and and swift, he hopped from stepping stone to stepping stone crossing the turbulent river. No hesitation in his steps, and without worry of the cold, churning waters below the raised boulders he moved instinctively as he pursued his prey. His worn leather boots oblivious to the slippery moss that covered the path across the meandering waterway.
Safely upon the other side, he rested a moment on bended knee to scan the partially frozen river shore seeking the tracks of the rare silver hart. A smile of accomplishment slipping across his face as his eyes found the tracks. He lifted his horn and sounded a loud blast signalling the path refound back towards the rest of his party who were to slow to keep up with his vigorous pace. He waited a few more moments and a distant two bellows sounded back to him communicating their position.
In fulfillment of the promise to only track the magnificent beast for his companions, he glanced around for a place to rest to await their inevitable arrival. Spotting a large tree he leaped with ease up into its leafy boughs and settled in. A legging clad leg swaying slightly the only evidence of his presence as he blended into the habitat.
He closed his eyes and listened to the sounds of the woods around him. Becoming one with each rustle of the underbrush, each snap of a twig and each screech of the birds. He openned his eyes instinctively as the elusive silver stag stepped from the woods and approached the river. Moving with magestic grace it slipped silently to the cold water and bowed its head to drink. Zeran notched his golden bow and with a well trained eye, aimed the arrow at the creature's jugular. With a smile he lowered his bow and watched the hart drink its breath soft snorts of cool mist.
A sound of an approaching horn startled the animal sending it leaping back into the security of the forest. He chuckled softly at the thought of the silly mortals sounding their hunting horn to advise him of their approach. He could hear their awkward footfalls leagues away. He sat back and closed his eyes to allow them to clear the river. Soon the hunt would begin again.
